Community Safety Initiative:
CSI is a collaborative project of At Home in Duluth and is coordinated through Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). CHUM organizers, with Neighborhood Housing Services staff, are working with residents of the Lincoln Park, and Central and East Hillside neighborhoods to address crime and safety issues. The Duluth Police Department has been an active partner in this initiative.
Safe Streets for the Homeless:
Homeless members of the Duluth community are often viewed with mistrust and suspicion. However, they are the victims of crime far out of proportion to their numbers. These crimes are considered to be low-risk by perpetrators because they are so often not identified or arrests made. CHUM is working to build relationships between Duluth police officers and homeless members of the community and to encourage them to report crimes to the police. CHUM also seeks to identify and bring to the attention of law enforcement those who prey on people who are homeless.
