Community Organizing
CHUM’s work is grounded in the biblical injunction to respond to those in need while loosening the bonds of injustice and oppression. In Duluth over 10,000 residents attend one of CHUM’s forty member congregations. They are a powerful force in advocating for public policies that are responsive to the needs and interests of the lowest income members of our community, a population often dependent upon CHUM programs to meet their basic needs. Initiatives championed by CHUM have led to the development of new affordable housing, provided more health care options, increased public investment in stabilization services, and helped build safer neighborhoods in Lincoln Park, Central Hillside, East Hillside, Morgan Park and West Duluth.
